Clarence has been involved in many different aspects of chess for the past
30 years. As a player, he started to play tournament chess in 1977. He
obtained the title of National Life Master in 1988 and has won many titles
including Houston City Championship, Texas State Team Championship, and
National G15 Championship. As an organizer, Clarence started the Houston
Chess Club (HCC) in 1991 and directed over a hundred adult and scholastic
tournaments. HCC remains as one of the most active chess clubs in Texas
today. As a teacher, Clarence has taught in many schools and coached
numerous adult and young students. Leveraging his college and industry
background in computer science, Clarence uses many computer chess tools
to train his students to achieve effective results.
